– “11 Crucial Consumer Trends for 2011“. Those clever people at Trendwatching.com have been gazing into their crystal ball and for January 2011 they’ve come up with a piece on 11 key trends for 2011. #11 on the list is “Owner-less”, i.e. renting and fractional ownership. They mean us!
– “Diamonds: An Investor’s Best Friend?” asks this Wall Street Journal piece dated 20th November 2009. The article focuses on the merit (or otherwise) of investing in diamonds as a capital asset, but includes a reference to Dazzling Capital who will be renting out their jewellery to paid-up investors.

New York Times piece dated 8th November 2009 about the start-up of Rent the Runway in the US, an Internet-based business that rents out designer dresses for a fraction of the cost of ownership. It makes the point that this model is a great way for up & coming new designers to get their creations ‘out there’ into the market.
– “High end Internet rentals: Do your research“. Good advice in this piece from the St. Petersburg Times dated 8th August 2009. The piece relates to renting / hiring jewellery, hangbags, shoes etc from websites in the US but the advice holds true here in the UK too. Apparently Avelle has clocked up more than 1 million customers across the US for its accessories rental services.
