The brownish tint which gives diamonds their distinctive champagne colour comes from the way in which the diamond crystal was formed under the tremendous pressures of the Earth, anything from 990 million to 4.25 billion years ago.
These champagne diamonds come from the Argyle diamond mine in Western Australia, famous for its brown diamonds and for its extremely rare pink and red diamonds.
