Sparkly and festive, but pointless: a gold Wii
Jamie Mordaunt
If you thought that during 2009 we collectively had learnt to curb our enthusiasm for over-the-top bling, think again.
Just when you thought that global recession had put a stop to this sort of thing, up pops a gold & diamond-encrusted Nintendo Wii.
For the über-wealthy gamer, this is just the thing.
The ‘Wii Supreme’ is encased in 2500 grams of 22 karat gold, and the buttons on the front of the machine are studded with 78 flawless 0.25 carat diamonds – a total diamond weight of just under 20 carats.
Keenly priced at £299,995 (which sounds so much more affordable than £300,000), only three of these gilded consoles are to be made, and you can get yours from designer Stuart Hughes here. It’s not known whether they can gift-wrap and deliver for Christmas later this week.
We think they should have called it the Wii Bliing.
