Is a diamond jewellery hire service a good idea?
Jamie Mordaunt
An encouraging number of women seem to think so, which makes us very happy here at diamondthrills.
We carried out a survey some time ago, putting a series of questions to several hundred women in the UK (and one man who managed to sneak into our survey by accident).
We blogged about one aspect of the survey’s findings in July: the occasions on which they would hire diamond jewellery (bridal occasions – weddings – won the day), and we can now reveal a couple of other findings from the same survey.
As a part of the survey we asked people to rate the strength of the idea of a diamond jewellery hire service, and here’s what they told us (and the numbers refer to percentage of respondents):

So 40% of women rated the idea as Good or Excellent and only 22% rated it as below Average.
Well considering that this is a new concept and we haven’t really told people much about it yet (the survey took place before we had this website up and running this summer), we take great comfort from that result.
Of course thinking it’s a great idea is not the same thing as actually planning to use a jewellery rental service – these women might be telling us that they think it’s a good idea for other people but not for them.
So we asked another question: “Would you consider hiring diamond jewellery?” And here are their answers to that question:

OK, so now we’re getting to the likely intentions of a statistically meaningful sample of real women in the UK, and although just over half of them said Definitely not or Probably not, we’ve clearly generated some interest in 14% because they told us Yes probably or Yes definitely, and there are likely to be a few more potential jewellery hirers lurking in that Maybe number of 28%.
Well, diamondthrills is a brand new business in the new and unfamiliar market of diamond jewellery rentals, so we’re not setting out to conquer everyone in the UK overnight or anytime soon.
We’re thrilled that from a cross-section of UK women (within a particular age band and above a certain level of household income), 14% are telling us that they definitely or probably would consider hiring diamond jewellery, with a further 28% suggesting that they could perhaps be persuaded.
Incidentally, we’ve been running a similar survey in recent weeks and so we’ve got some more up-to-date results, but the people completing the survey have already found the diamondthrills website so they are pre-disposed to like diamond jewellery and in many cases they are actively looking for diamond jewellery to rent, probably for their own wedding as bridal jewellery.
So we would expect the results to be even more encouraging than those above, which were taken from a cross section of UK women rather than a self-selecting group.
But for what it’s worth, an incredible 100% think that a diamond jewellery rental service is a good or excellent idea, and 91% would probably or definitely make use of such a service.
You can complete the same 2-minute survey – completely anonymously if you wish – by clicking on this link. Anyone who completes the survey and leaves their email address will go into a draw to win a diamondthrills experience: free loan of a beautiful piece of diamond jewellery for any occasion (in the UK) of their choice.
