Chocolate cake, with a diamond topping
Jamie Mordaunt
oh dear. another silly idea involving diamonds, and in this case, a chocolate cake.
There is no shortage of stories about diamonds being used to ‘bling up’ a more workaday product. We have seen umpteen mobile phones studded with diamonds, and bras, belts, shoes, handbags, ties…
Now it’s a chocolate cake that has come in the diamond treatment, pictured below. And not just diamonds, but leafed with gold too.

The cake was produced for Angelito Araneta Jr, a businessman in the Philippines, as a novel marriage proposal gift. Angelito got his catering company to cook up the cake, cover it in 24k gold leaf, and top it with 15 diamonds.
The diamonds are described as ‘African’, but knowing what we know about the diamond business, we find it hard to believe that the diamonds can be traced back from the Philippines to a specific African source.
If you have the perfect occasion for a diamond-studded chocolate cake then they are available from Araneto’s catering company in Manila, priced at about £1700.
